Nobody should face violence from their partner

Our Mission & Values

Domestic violence violence is one of the most widespread human rights violations in the world. In East Africa, it affects the health, freedom, and futures of millions of women and their families.

Women in East Africa experience partner violence every year

Our vision

A world where women are safe at home and families thrive in healthy, equitable relationships.

By 2036

Our radio dramas are protecting women across 10 countries in East Africa.

How we get there

Step 1

Build it & Prove it

2024 -2026

Develop the model and generate rigorous causal evidence through our Rwanda RCT and building the credibility needed to unlock sustained investment and replication.

Step 2

Replicate it

2026-2028

Expand directly to Burundi and beyond, adapting content for local contexts and designing a replicable evidence-based production model. Explore other medias (digital).

Step 3

Empower others

2028 onwards

Make the model open and replicable, so other organisations anywhere with access to media can adopt it, multiplying impact far beyond NOVAH's direct reach.

What we believe

1. PEOPLE FIRST

Every decision we make is guided by one question: does this help the women, men, and families as much as possible? Working in sensitive areas like relationships and violence, we carefully test processes to ensure safety and avoid unintended consequences.

2. FOLLOW THE EVIDENCE

We follow the data, even when it's inconvenient, and we share our results openly.

3. STAY ADAPTABLE

We test our ideas in the real world and adapt to new contexts. We stay responsive to what we learn and adjust quickly when things don’t work as expected.

4. IMPACT AT SCALE

We focus on solutions that can reach millions, not just hundreds. We go where the need is greatest and keep pushing for meaningful, lasting change.

5. GROUNDED IN MOVEMENT

The fight to end intimate partner violence is bigger than any one organisation. We stand alongside researchers, activists, and communities who have been doing this work for decades, and we approach that with humility. We bring what we can and we keep learning from everyone around us.
